Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookies on Cooling Rack

I was craving chocolate chip cookies the other day, but I’ve outgrown my previous recipe. Chocolate chip cookies are so commonplace. I wanted something truly remarkable. I decided to experiment by taking about 3 or 4 different cookie recipes I really enjoy and combining my favorite elements from each. The result is a crispy-chewy cookie that was not overly sweet (thanks to bittersweet chocolate chips, but use semisweet if you prefer) and just a touch of saltiness to balance it out. … Continue Reading →

Iced Anise Cookies

I recently brought my husband with me on a shopping trip when he spied Christmas-colored nonpareils. He “suggested” they would look great on anise cookies…hint, hint. Because I’m such a good wife, and because I like to get nice presents (heh heh), I decided to make some for the holidays. First I searched every recipe book I own (a lot!) and came up with nothing. Maybe they go by another name? Then I thought I could get the recipe from my mother-in-law, since we were supposed to get together over the weekend. Well, the nor’easter kept us snowed in and … Continue Reading →

New England Snowballs

I was looking for a cookie that would ship well, to pack with the gifts I mailed out to my brother’s family. I wanted to do gingerbread cutouts, but I wasn’t sure they would arrive intact. I was flipping through a book called “Homemade Christmas” by Mary Harvey Gurley, when I saw the recipe for Mexican Wedding Cookies. I decided these would work for a couple of reasons. They are small and a bit firm, so they’re unlikely to arrive in pieces. Also, they look like little snowballs. My brother lives in a much warmer part of the country than … Continue Reading →

Aloha Cookies

I’m not sure “Aloha Cookies” is the best name, but it was the best I could come up with.  It was that or “Pineapple Coconut Macadamia Cookies”…and I ran out of breath trying to say it. :)  I went on a baking frenzy today and decided to come up with something new.  Hence this recipe.  I also made Anise Biscotti and Oatmeal Cookies.  I botched the biscotti, though.  It happens.  Ah, well!  I even cooked up some delicious dulce de leche!  I’d never made it before, but there have been so many bloggers raving about how easy it is I … Continue Reading →

Oatmeal Cookies

I had a craving for oatmeal cookies the other day, so I hunted around for a good recipe. I don’t like raisins in my oatmeal cookies, but I do like nuts. I wanted something with a bit of cinnamon also. I was ready to find an okay recipe and modify it to my liking, but I was lucky enough to come across a near perfect recipe at JoyofBAKING.com. I didn’t make my cookies quite so large as indicated. (In the original recipe, they mention using an ice cream scoop!) I used a large cookie scoop, and ended up with about … Continue Reading →
