Recipe: Smoked Salmon Mousse

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: none
Serves: 16

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces smoked salmon
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed, to taste
  • 1 ounce salmon roe

Instructions

  1. Place smoked salmon in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Mix in heavy cream, cream cheese, juice of half a lemon, dried dill weed, salt and pepper. Blend to desired consistency. Transfer to a serving dish, and garnish with salmon roe.

Notes

I omitted the salmon roe, used fresh dill instead of dried (doubled), and added a teaspoon or so of horseradish. Garlic can also be used. If you have a particularly juicy lemon, you may want to use less than half; I had a real juicy one and found that the lemon overpowered the other flavors. This is great with vegetables, melba toast, or breadsticks. Garlic or pumpernickel are good flavors to get!
