Eggplant Parmesan Casserole

Where does the time go? I’ve had so much going on in the past several weeks, I can barely remember my own name. In summary, I lost a grandfather, discovered my cat has cancer, and learned I was pregnant. I’m very happy about that last part, but not so much about the rest. I won’t get into details here, but for those of you interested, you may read more about those events on my other blog. Needless to say, with all that’s been going on, I haven’t had much time to get creative with my cooking. And now that things … Continue Reading →

New England Clam Chowder

The Union Oyster House in Boston, Massachusetts is purportedly America’s oldest restaurant.  Whether truth or an exaggeration (hey, you can’t believe everything you read on a paper napkin), it is certainly a famous Boston landmark. To this day you can still sit at the horseshoe shaped bar – where it is rumored that Daniel Webster ate and drank more than his fair share of oysters and bourbon – and dine on some of the best oysters and clam chowder around.  Of course, bourbon is still available too! No, that’s not the actual bar.  It’s just a little display they have … Continue Reading →

Lemon Basil Marinade

I’m slacking again with updating this site. I was hoping to get at least one more recipe in before my recent trip to Walt Disney World, but time got away from me.  I’d like to say it won’t happen again, but it probably will.  I’ve been thinking up some new ideas for this site, though.  I might start including some non-recipe (but still food related) posts.  They’d focus on techniques I use in the kitchen, some of my most used gadgets, and things of that nature.  I’d also like to start featuring some “guest” recipes, but more on that later. … Continue Reading →

Fresh Soft Shell Crab

It’s May and soft shell crabs are back in season!  This morning I went to the fish market to buy the haddock I’m cooking for Mother’s Day.  I spied these little guys in the case while placing my order.  My timing couldn’t have been better.  The crabs just arrived fresh this morning.  I knew my husband wouldn’t forgive me if I didn’t buy any, so I grabbed a few to make for our lunch.  I decided to have fun with it and share with you how to clean and prepare fresh soft shell crab for cooking. Step 1: Remove the … Continue Reading →

Baked Haddock

Wow, it has been a while since I updated this blog! I’ve had a busy couple of months, and on top of everything I came down with pneumonia. I had no sense of taste or smell for a while, and then I could only taste salt and sour after that. It’s hard to think of yummy recipes when you can’t enjoy food. I’m back to normal now, so hopefully no more lags between posts. Before I get to the recipe, I want to make a quick announcement. I’ve started another blog: Been There, Dawn That.  I hope that it will … Continue Reading →
