Summer Vegetable Stew

I’ve had this recipe, or some variation of it, in my collection for I don’t know how long. I’m not even sure where the original came from. What I do know is that it’s one of my husband’s favorite ways to eat vegetables. Since he thinks vegetables are an “optional” part of any meal, I do what I can to get him excited about them. While I was making this yesterday, my husband said the aroma took him back to his Italian grandmother’s kitchen. Simple foods from the earth, probably grown in their very own garden.

Eating My Way Around the Blogosphere

Where does the time go? I’ve had so much going on in the past several weeks, I can barely remember my own name. In summary, I lost a grandfather, discovered my cat has cancer, and learned I was pregnant. I’m very happy about that last part, but not so much about the rest. I won’t get into details here, but for those of you interested, you may read more about those events on my other blog. Needless to say, with all that’s been going on, I haven’t had much time to get creative with my cooking. And now that things … Continue reading
Sunday Frittata

This is a somewhat informal recipe. A frittata is just an open-faced omelet, and I don’t think there are many people who need a recipe for that. So this is more of a method of how I do it. Or maybe it was just an excuse for me to take pictures of breakfast. :) A few weeks ago I purchased a kit for growing mushrooms. I’m growing white mushrooms and portabellas (or portobellos, if you prefer that spelling). I’ve seen wild mushrooms seemingly appear overnight in the yard, but I didn’t realize how fast they’d actually grow in my … Continue reading

Iced Anise Cookies

I recently brought my husband with me on a shopping trip when he spied Christmas-colored nonpareils. He “suggested” they would look great on anise cookies…hint, hint. Because I’m such a good wife, and because I like to get nice presents (heh heh), I decided to make some for the holidays. First I searched every recipe book I own (a lot!) and came up with nothing. Maybe they go by another name? Then I thought I could get the recipe from my mother-in-law, since we were supposed to get together over the weekend. Well, the nor’easter kept us snowed in … Continue reading
Pesto-Crusted Salmon with Homemade Basil Pesto

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Things have been pretty hectic for me lately, and I think I’ve spread myself a bit too thin. Over the next couple of months, my posts may be sporadic at best. I’m going to be going through in-vitro (more on that here) and, from what I’ve read, it’s no walk in the park. On the days when I’m feeling up to it, I’ll try to get some fresh content on here. Meanwhile, enjoy this 2-for-1 special! The Pesto I had what looked like an abundance of basil growing in a flower box by … Continue reading
