I could throw them out and feel guilty about the waste. I could put them away with the ornaments and hang them on the tree again next year. (Hey, it’s not like they’ll go bad!) Or I could turn them into a cool, creamy treat that’s perfect for enjoying while sitting by the fire. This ice cream is custard based, which means it contains eggs. If you have an egg allergy, you may want to give this recipe a try instead. … Continue reading →

There's just nothing that can compare to those sweet little jewels found at local farm stands. They are able to offer varieties that are far too delicate to withstand being trucked across the country. Another local farm carries fresh milk and cream. Again, these are not like what you'd find in a big grocery store. They are so much richer. Combined with fresh, local strawberries, what better way to show them off than by making strawberry ice cream? Continue reading →

It’s not dead, just sleeping. Since my last entry I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Angelina. She’s now nearly 9 months old, and I’m slowly learning to be a mom AND have time for all the extras in life…like this blog. I can’t guarantee I’ll update often, but I will do my best not to let this blog fade into the ether. Snow ice cream, or snow cream, is super easy to make. Here in New England, as in much of the country, we’re buried under an … Continue reading →

This sorbet was inspired by a desire to preserve the fruit without adding excessive calories. It’s pleasantly sweet without being cloying, perfect for cooling off on a summer afternoon! 1 large cantaloupe juice from 2 limes 2 tablespoons honey Freeze your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s directions. Remove the seeds and rind from the cantaloupe and cut it into chunks. Place cantaloupe, lime juice and honey in a food processor and purée until smooth.
