Peppermint Stick Ice Cream

The holidays have come and gone once more, and I’m finding myself left with far too many candy canes. I could throw them out and feel guilty about the waste. I could put them away with the ornaments and hang them on the tree again next year. (Hey, it’s not like they’ll go bad!) Or I could turn them into a cool, creamy treat that’s perfect for enjoying while sitting by the fire.
Strawberry Ice Cream

Strawberry season has arrived in the northeast! There’s just nothing that can compare to those sweet little jewels found at local farm stands. They are able to offer varieties that are far too delicate to withstand being trucked across the country. Another local farm carries fresh milk and cream. Again, these are not like what you’d find in a big grocery store. They are so much richer. Combined with fresh, local strawberries, what better way to show them off than by making strawberry ice cream? Continue reading

Snow Ice Cream

It’s been a long time since I’ve updated this blog! It’s not dead, just sleeping. Since my last entry I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Angelina. She’s now nearly 9 months old, and I’m slowly learning to be a mom AND have time for all the extras in life…like this blog. Cantaloupe Sorbet

Cantaloupe was on sale at our local grocery store, and I bought more than I could eat before it went bad. This sorbet was inspired by a desire to preserve the fruit without adding excessive calories. It’s pleasantly sweet without being cloying, perfect for cooling off on a summer afternoon! 1 large cantaloupe juice from 2 limes 2 tablespoons honey Freeze your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s directions. Frozen Banana Pops
Source: Unknown Ingredients 1 ½ cups Rice Krispies®, or nuts 3 tablespoons margarine ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips 4 bananas, firm and ripe 8 wooden skewers, or popsicle sticks Directions Measure cereal and set aside in a shallow dish. Melt margarine and chocolate morsels together in a small saucepan over very low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Pour chocolate mixture into a second shallow dish. Set aside. Peel bananas. Cut in half crosswise. Insert skewers into cut ends of each half. Immediately dip each banana in melted chocolate to coat evenly.
