S’mores Tarts – Little Bites of Chocolate Summer Bliss

I first saw s’mores tarts in the bakery case at a local café and thought they were a brilliant idea! I didn’t get one right away, but I kept thinking of them. Next time I returned to the café they were gone. I thought they must be easy enough to make, then life got in the way and I forgot. Recently a local restaurant put them on their dessert menu. Yum! I was fortunate enough to have them twice before they were replaced with another decadent dessert. This time I sucked two of my friends into the obsession with me. … Continue reading

Chocolate Orgasms

There used to be a small bakery chain in my area called Rosie’s Bakery. My favorite item from their shop was their chocolate orgasms. They are incredibly rich, dense, fudgy brownies with a ganache-like frosting on top. The name is no exaggeration, either. One bite and you’ll be hooked. I was lucky enough to happen across a knock-off recipe for these decadent treats years ago. I can no longer remember the original source. These are so close to the original I no longer miss the bakery. The original had walnuts, and that’s how I like them best. You can … Continue reading
Indoor S’mores

This has been one of the rainiest June’s I can remember, at least in my area. I think we swapped climates with Seattle. When summer comes I crave s’mores, but how do you make a decent s’more when the rain doesn’t let up long enough to build a fire? Friday night seemed like a good time to try. The sun had made an appearance that day, and it seemed like we might get a few more hours reprieve from all the precipitation. No sooner did we have the fire blazing away in our fire pit than it started to … Continue reading
Individual Chocolate Lava Cakes

What? Another lava cake recipes? Isn’t every recipe blogger doing that? Okay, okay. But this is the last part of my red-themed-anti-Valentine’s Day dinner, and I wanted to post it. There are many different ways to make this moist, delicious cake with a melty center. Sometimes the center is made separately from the rest of the cake, sometimes not. Either way, I’ve never met a lava cake I didn’t like (and that’s saying something since I’m generally not a cake fan). I found this recipe on the Ghirardelli web site. (Hey, I might as well go to the pros.) It … Continue reading

Cadbury Mini Egg Cookies with Macadamia Nuts

What are you going to do with all that leftover Easter candy? Nikki has provided the perfect solution by choosing Easter candy as this month’s Master Baker ingredient. Keep an eye out for her recipe round-up at the beginning of April. There are bound to be recipes for just about every type of Easter candy imaginable! My favorite Easter candy is the Cadbury mini egg. These are the candy-coated, milk chocolate eggs, not the sickly sweet, creme-filled variety. (Sorry to any fans of the creme egg I may have offended!) I thought they’d be the perfect substitute for the chocolate … Continue reading
