I was lucky enough to happen across a knock-off recipe for these decadent treats years ago. I can no longer remember the original source. These are so close to the original I no longer miss the bakery. The original had walnuts, and that’s how I like them best. You can … Continue reading →

It’s from 1949 edition of Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book. Since my mom wasn’t yet born in 1949, I’d guess that my grandmother made it for her growing up too. At least, that’s how I like to imagine it. What I love about this recipe is that I can make it at a moments notice. None of the ingredients are fancy. I almost always have everything I need on hand. It also comes together very quickly. You can throw it together in the morning, … Continue reading →

I prefer my strawberries on real shortcake – no spongecake or angel cake for me, thank you very much. I need something that can stand up to all that juice. These biscuits certainly fit the bill. I’ve been told by a neighbor that they’re better … Continue reading →

Another lava cake recipes? Isn’t every recipe blogger doing that? Okay, okay. But this is the last part of my red-themed-anti-Valentine’s Day dinner, and I wanted to post it. There are many different ways to make this moist, delicious cake with a melty center. Sometimes the center is made separately from the rest of the cake, sometimes not. Either way, I’ve never met a lava cake I didn’t like (and that’s saying something since I’m generally not a cake fan). I found this recipe on the Ghirardelli web site. If you haven’t seen it yet, you must check it out. I admit my first reaction was less than flattering, but I was so impressed with her creativity! I showed my fiancé the site, thinking he’d find it as humorous as I did. You know, just another one of those jokes going around the Internet. Much to my dismay, his immediate response was, “When are you making me a meat cake?” I dragged my feet for a while, but eventually I broke down and … Continue reading →
