Bacon Rose Bouquet | Dawn's Recipes

Firstly, let me apologize for not posting this before Valentine’s Day. I couldn’t very well make it in advance since I was giving it to my husband. I had to wait till he was at work today, otherwise the telltale aroma of bacon filling our house would have given it away. Plus, he reads my blog. If you’re not celebrating Valentine’s Day till the weekend, I’ve still got you covered. Otherwise, why not Pin this now and you’ll have it ready for next Valentine’s Day, or for Father’s Day, or for that special someone’s birthday? … Continue Reading →

Cranberry Beans with Rosemary and Bacon | Dawn's Recipes

This bean goes by so many names: cranberry bean, shell bean or borlotti bean just to name a few. I prefer the name cranberry bean. Bacon Caramels

One year Starbucks put salted caramel hot chocolate on their menu. What an incredible drink! The way the smoked sea salt played off the sweetness in the chocolate and caramel was music to my taste buds. I missed it dearly when it was gone and eagerly awaited its return the following year. Pan-frying bacon is a good way to end up with grease splatters all over your stove. Those splatters are even less enjoyable when they splash your forearm. Grilling bacon imparts and excellent flavor, and it seasons your grill nicely too. It requires lots of attention, however, to avoid flare-ups resulting in black, crumbly strips. Microwaved bacon dries out too easily, leaving something that more closely resembles artificial bacon bins. I make my bacon in the oven. Not only does it eliminate the mess, but it doesn’t require much of my attention, leaving me free to get the rest of breakfast … Continue Reading →

I’m fortunate enough to work at a company with a full-service cafeteria. I’m not a big sandwich person. So on the mornings when I’m feeling too lazy to pack something for lunch, I can always purchase something from the cafe. The best days are when mac and cheese is on the menu. No, it’s not the healthiest dining choice I could make, but our cafeteria prides itself on serving “creamy and delicious” lunches. Now, while their mac and cheese is quite good, I knew I could do better at home. Granted, I don’t have to make anywhere near the quantities … Continue Reading →
